Eating in Marrakech reads on three registers that do not mix. The everyday meal, at a gargote counter or at the stalls that rise on Jemaa el-Fna at sunset, runs around eight euros: tagine, harira, skewers. A mid-range restaurant sits near eighteen euros a head, the register of riad terraces and Guéliz addresses. An ambitious table starts around forty-five euros.
One local feature changes the arithmetic: many riads serve dinner on request at a fixed price, often cheaper than an equivalent table in town, in a setting you will not find elsewhere. Ask the day before.
Alcohol is the exception that lifts a bill: it is served only in licensed establishments, mainly in Guéliz and the larger riads, and it is expensive relative to the rest of the meal. Dinner without wine in Marrakech is not a deprivation, it is the norm.

The medina is done on foot, and it is the only sensible way: the lanes are not for cars, and an address advertised five minutes from the square can involve a real maze. Expect a taxi to drop you at the nearest gate, not at the riad's door.
Between the medina and Guéliz, the petit taxi is the usual mode. Insist on the meter, or agree the price before getting in: the inner-city fare is negotiated, and the gap between the two practices runs three to one. City buses exist and cost under a euro, but they serve tourist routes poorly.
