Centrum - Nordstan
The administrative heart around the central station and Gustaf Adolfs torg, with the cathedral and the German Church minutes away. The Nils Ericson bus terminal, the airport shuttle's final stop, adjoins the station.
Linné - Haga - Masthugget

Gothenburg's budget reflex is called dagens lunch. On weekdays most restaurants serve a full lunch between 11:30am and 2pm for 90 to 130 kronor, roughly €8 to €11. It's the same standard of cooking that doubles easily on an evening à la carte menu. Linnégatan, between Järntorget and Linnéplatsen, holds the densest run of addresses in that range, and the Saluhallen market hall houses several counters for a quick meal. Two details worth knowing: many restaurants close on Mondays, so a good dinner needs planning; and in cafés, particularly those in Haga, filter coffee normally comes with a free refill, which changes the cost of a morning spent working at a table.

Västtrafik runs trams, buses and boats under a single ticket. In zone A, a 24-hour pass costs 120 kronor and the 72-hour 240 kronor, roughly €10 and €20. Because zone A takes in the southern archipelago, that same ticket boards the passenger boats out of Saltholmen and the ferries crossing the river to the north bank: two excursions included in the price of city transit. Inside the center trams run on separated tracks and move quickly; crossing the full 20 km of the city end to end, however, can take an hour, with express buses noticeably faster on those runs. From Landvetter airport, the shuttle costs 119 kronor one way booked online against 139 at the counter, for a 20 to 35 minute ride. A taxi over the same route runs 520 to 560 kronor, four to five times more. Bring a bank card: the shuttle ticket cannot be bought any other way.
